The first International Puppet Festival Pakistan 1992 was the first festival of its nature & scale in Pakistan. The Festival laid the foundations of the Pakistani branch of UNIMA and the Pakistan Museum of puppetry.
Beyond providing sheer entertainment for thousands of people, it enhanced the awareness of puppetry in Pakistan. Moreover, as over 30 groups from over 20 countries participated in it, it exposed the culturally starved public of Pakistan to the diverse cultures of the world.
Although the festival was the first of its kind and enhanced the image of Pakistan in the rest of the world, the entire project was privately funded without any explicit help from the government agencies.
In this festival a total of 38 groups from 23 countries participated.
