INTERNATIONALLY FAMOUS SHANDUR POLO FESTIVALpolo.jpg (730442 bytes)

The corporation is also managing the Worlds famous Shandur Polo festival at the heights of 12200 feet at a ground amidst the snowy lake and surrounded by snowy mountains at Shandur (Chitral). Thousands of foreign tourists enjoy the series of matches from all over the world. Tracking back history, Polo was a training game of the Cavalry units for the King's guards/elite troops of Persia in the beginning which later on developed into a popular game of Persia, Tibet, China & Japan. It was introduced by a British officer at the end of the 19th century in Chitral.

Tourists are advised to reach at Karachi/Islamabad Air ports one week before and then to manage for the arrival at Chitral by air from Peshawar or by road.

KHYBER STEAM SAFARI

khytrn.jpg (639527 bytes)STC is managing the Khvber Steam Safari Train (Through public private partnership) which is one of it’s kind in the world and passes through the famous Khyber pass. So far many international reputed dignitaries like Deputy Premier of Australia have also enjoyed the trip and has been broadcasted by the BBC.

It is believed that the people numbering 3 to 4 thousand living in the Chitral District of NWFP are connected to the old Greek civilization. The tourists visiting NWFP also visit one of the world's ancient tribe of Kalash people and their civilization during their following festivals each year.
