The Lahore Convention of PIPFPD, the second and concluding part of the Forum's launching, proved to be as exhilarating an exercise as the first convention in New Delhi nine months earlier. There were doubts whether delegates from India would be able to travel to Lahore, whether the Pakistan chapter would be able to demonstrate adequate public support in Pakistan for the Forum, and whether it would be possible for the two sides to clear the way ahead. That these misgivings proved to be incorrect was most gratifying. A large contingent of eminent delegates from India did come to Lahore.
Following Joint Declaration was issued at the conclusion of Lahore Convention.
It was agreed:
That war and attempts to create war hysteria should be outlawed. That a process of de-nuclearization and reversal of the arms race should be started.
The Kashmir not merely being a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan, a peaceful democratic solution of it involving the peoples of Jammu and Kashmir is the only way out.
That religious intolerance must be curbed as these tendencies create social strife, undermine democracy and increase the persecution and oppression of disadvantaged sections of society.
And finally that the group constitute a convening committee for setting up a Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy.
