International Conference
on
Water & Globalization

September 8-11, 2002
Multan – Pakistan.

Maude Barlow will lead the global civil society meeting that Development VISIONS will organize under the title
of ICW&G in collaboration with national, regional and international networks and organizations.

Globalization is real. Conflict is real. Technology dictates that we all now live post September. But greed is precluding hope for the poor in the world. Markets are advancing. Ways of living are threatened. Cultures are crumbling. Water is under attack!

Our world is changing in front of us.

Dirty Globalizers are lobbying hard to take over our water. Big business is poised to hijack RIO+10. Expensive efforts are on to define the future agenda of Sustainable Development to better suit profiteering ends. Water is the key resource around which a global crisis is being articulated.

Are we really running out of water or do we need to review the way we live on “Our Planet”?

This is the question that multinational companies hankering for profits and growth do not want on the agenda of Sustainable Development. This is what we need to ask. Mindless politicians and faceless bankers are working hard to push for the business agenda ignoring real issues. There is a very real need to work for consensus on Rio+10 and beyond in the world of civil society. We need international unity on generalized issues of Globalization, commodification and privatization of water and their serious impact on people around the world. Policy issues in irrigation, agriculture, trade and environment need to be asserted.

Towards these ends, Development VISIONS-Pakistan announces to organize a four-day civil society International Conference on Water & Globalization from September 8-11, 2002 at Multan, the oldest living city in South Asia. Eight different workshops on range of issues bearing upon Water & Globalization will be held concurrently in the conference to be led by Chairperson Council of Canadians Maude Barlow.

First Call of conference will go out end November 2001.
