(07/27/2001) USA: Bergdorf Goodman and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Announce a Groundbreaking New Association NEW YORK- Bergdorf Goodman, the world's preeminent fashion specialty store, has been selected as the ``Official Fashion Consultant of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the 53rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Celebrations.'' The announcement was made jointly by James B. Chabin, President of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and by Ronald L. Frasch, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bergdorf Goodman. ``The Academy looked to the leader in international fashion and invited Bergdorf Goodman to consult with us on fashion for this year's Emmy season events. Stated Mr. Frasch, ``Fashion has taken on an integral and influential role in the entertainment industry. No where is this more evident nor more prevalent than in television. The partnership that the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Bergdorf Goodman are jointly announcing today represents an unprecedented union of fashion and television. It is a great honor for Bergdorf Goodman to have been chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences as the fashion consultant for the organization and for the Primetime Emmy Award's season events. It is both a tribute and affirmation of our leadership role and impact in the world of fashion.'' Bergdorf Goodman will provide wardrobe counsel, fashion trend information and access to the world's leading fashion and accessories designers for Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' members and Emmy Award attendees, as well as for stylists and wardrobers. Said Mr. Frasch, ``I firmly believe that Bergdorf Goodman will serve as a vital resource for the television industry, under the auspices of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, providing invaluable guidance and counsel as relates to fashion and style.'' Bergdorf Goodman will also be featured in the 53rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards presenters gift basket. Bergdorf Goodman has developed an exclusive, sterling silver gift amenities card that entitles recipients of the Emmy Awards gift basket to an unprecedented collection of services and amenities. The specific benefits and privileges of the card will be disclosed at a later date. Mr. Chabin believes that the influence and presence Bergdorf Goodman will have on the Academy and the Emmy season events will be monumental. ``We hope to build a strong partnership and have the leading experts in fashion and style from Bergdorf Goodman working with us,'' Mr. Chabin said. Stated Mr. Frasch, ``Since its inception, Bergdorf Goodman has established a reputation of catering to the fashion and lifestyle needs of the world's most demanding and discriminating clientele, including the elite of Hollywood. This association will enable us to introduce new clientele from the entertainment industry to the incomparable expertise and level of personalized service offered by Bergdorf Goodman.'' The association between the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Bergdorf Goodman is unparalleled in both the entertainment and fashion industries. Said Mr. Chabin, ``Fashion and television are now united in setting the taste and reflecting the taste of Americans, young and old. Fashion makes the Emmy's more exciting, and the Emmy's make fashion more exciting.'' |

Thursday July 26, 10:37 am Eastern Time CHICAGO, July 26 (Reuters) - Athletic apparel maker Russell Corp on Thursday said it will cut between 200 and 250 jobs, as the company restructures in a difficult retail environment. The organization reductions are part of the restructuring the company announced earlier Thursday, the company said in a conference call. The company said 150 of the job cuts will come from the consolidation of its Mt. Airy, North Carolina-based Cross Creek Apparel artwear business with another artwear business in Atlanta. In early June, the company had announced it would cut 800 jobs or 5 percent of its worldwide work force as part of its three-year restructuring. |
